In this part of my research on the concept of “home,” I study which psychological needs must be fulfilled for people to feel at home. The need for social connectedness, love, acceptance—the need to be seen, heard, and embraced as an authentic individual—forms the starting point for these tactile sculptures. The work addresses society’s pressing expectations that one must give everything of oneself so that others can feel at ease, experience security. Meanwhile, one continues to hope in vain, waiting for hands that guarantee a safe haven, that extend a healing hand. The works seek to fulfill a need that may have remained unanswered in the (personal) search (of the audience) for this place. Each piece carries a subtle message stitched into the arm segments.

The works may be manipulated by the viewer, allowing them to literally embrace and comfort themselves—so that they may come home

All these hands I have for you but will someone please hold mine? 2024
